The PRO cabinets are the commercial-styled end of the range: heavy stainless, exposed hardware, tubular handles, and on several models a glass door on the fresh-food side. Underneath the styling they are dual-refrigeration cabinets like everything else in the full-size line, and they are diagnosed the same way.
The current models are the PRO4850 and the PRO3650. The legacy unit still in a great many Jacksonville kitchens is the 648PRO.
Two systems, still two systems
A PRO has two compressors and two evaporators. The fresh-food circuit holds 38°F and keeps humidity in the compartment. The freezer circuit holds 0°F and keeps the compartment dry. They fail independently.
So the same rule applies here as on a Classic: a warm fresh-food side over a freezer that is perfectly at 0°F is not a contradiction, and it is not evidence of a failing compressor. It is a fault on one circuit, and which circuit narrows the parts list before a panel comes off.
The glass door changes the numbers
The glass-door PRO cabinets look superb and they carry a thermal penalty. A large glazed panel is a heat path into a 38°F compartment, and manufacturers manage that with heater circuits and careful sealing.
Two consequences follow in a Northeast Florida kitchen. First, humidity. A kitchen at 75 percent relative humidity in August will put condensation on a cold glass face whenever the door heater circuit is not doing its job or the seal has lost compression. Second, run time. The glass door means the fresh-food circuit already works harder than it would behind an insulated panel, so a condenser that is merely dusty on a solid-door cabinet becomes a temperature complaint on a glass-door one.
That is why we take condenser restriction more seriously on this series than on any other. It has less margin to give away.
Condenser and cleaning
On the PRO cabinets the condenser is reached from the upper grille, on the same built-in platform layout as Classic and legacy Built-In. Check the grille at the top of the cabinet first; the model plate confirms the layout for your unit.
Clean every six to twelve months. Every six with pets. Not required under six months of age. The 48°F rule holds: a fresh-food compartment above 48°F against a 38°F setpoint is unlikely to recover from a cleaning, and if temperatures are not back at setpoint within 24 hours of one, book service.
EC40 on the 648PRO
The 648PRO is one of the cabinets that reports EC40, excessive freezer compressor run time. The split is worth memorising: under ten degrees above setpoint, clean the condenser; over ten degrees above setpoint with no door left standing open, call for service.
Do not clear the code before the visit. It carries timing information, and on a two-circuit cabinet that is frequently how we establish whether the loss was gradual or abrupt.
Water and ice
The 648PRO, the PRO3650 and the PRO4850 all take the twist-in water filter, part 4204490 or 9030868. The air purification cartridge is 7042798 and has no effect on water or ice.
Ice production requires the freezer at or below 5°F, with 0°F recommended, and on a PRO cabinet the glass door and the heat load around it make that worth confirming before anything else. A compartment sitting at 8°F keeps food frozen and stops harvesting.
With the compartment at setpoint, PRO ice complaints divide the same three ways they do on every cabinet in this family. Thin, hollow or undersized cubes mean water is arriving short, upstream of the mold. A full mold that will not release is a harvest fault at the ejector, the mold thermostat or the mold heater. A slab of ice across the back of the compartment means the fill tube or its heater. A new filter is worth fitting on schedule because a saturated one restricts flow, but it is not a repair for any of the three.
Coverage
Manufacturer terms are two years full parts and labor, five years full sealed system, twelve years limited sealed system, parts only. In years six through twelve the covered sealed-system part is still supplied parts-only, obtained from the manufacturer directly, and an independent shop may do the work with the homeowner paying labor. On a PRO 48 that distinction is measured in thousands.
