Grouped by what you are actually looking at: a symptom, a maintenance interval, a code on the display, or a question about this company. Numbers here are the manufacturer's published figures or measurements, not opinions.
The commonest question on this list is about ice, and it usually has a plumbing answer.
Symptoms
What the cabinet is telling you
The refrigerator is warm but the freezer is perfect. How is that possible?
Because there are two of everything. Every full-size cabinet of this kind runs two independent sealed systems: two compressors, two evaporators, one per compartment. The freezer circuit is working and the fresh-food circuit is not. It is the ordinary presentation of a single-circuit fault, not a contradiction.
My fresh-food compartment reads 52F. Will cleaning the condenser fix it?
Unlikely. The manufacturer publishes a threshold: above 48F against a 38F setpoint, the unit is unlikely to recover from a condenser cleaning. Above that line something has failed rather than fouled. Clean it anyway if it is dirty, but book the call.
I cleaned the condenser. How long should I wait before calling?
Twenty four hours. If both compartments have not returned to setpoint within that window, the unit needs service. Waiting a week to see whether it settles only adds a week of food loss.
There is water standing under the crisper drawers.
The fresh-food drain is most often frozen rather than clogged. It is cleared with a controlled defrost, door open, and the cause of the freeze is then found. Never push a wire down it and never pour boiling water into it.
The ice is thin, hollow, or the ice maker has stopped.
Check the freezer temperature first. Ice production needs the compartment at or below 5F, and 0F is the recommended setting. A compartment sitting at 8F keeps food frozen and quietly stops harvesting. If the freezer is holding, we measure the fill volume before condemning anything, because thin and hollow cubes are a fill problem and a stalled ejector is not.
Maintenance
What you can do yourself
How often does the condenser need cleaning?
Every six to twelve months. Every six in a house with shedding pets. A cabinet less than six months old does not need it at all.
Where is the condenser on my unit?
It depends on the series. Classic and legacy Built-In cabinets, and the model 430 wine unit, are top-mounted behind a flip-up grille. Designer, legacy Integrated, the 700 Series and the 427 are bottom-mounted. Undercounter cabinets breathe through a front base grille.
Should I unplug the refrigerator before a storm?
It is a reasonable precaution if the cabinet is easy to isolate at the breaker, and it is the only free protection available on an appliance that is otherwise connected year round. Do not pull a built-in forward to reach a plug. After any extended outage, note the date and tell us if the cabinet has behaved differently since, because board damage frequently shows up weeks later.
Which filter fits my cabinet?
Twist-in 4204490 or 9030868 on Classic CL and Built-In BI, Designer and legacy Integrated, the 648PRO, the PRO3650 and the PRO4850. Push-in 7045454, formerly 7023812, elsewhere; 7005017 and 7023811 are discontinued. The UC-15I ice maker takes 7042803, which replaced 7012333. The air purification cartridge is 7042798 and does nothing for water.
Codes and doors
Things that look like faults and often are not
The display shows a code. Should I clear it?
Not before the technician arrives. A stored code records when the excursion began and how the control responded, and on a cabinet with two sealed systems that is frequently what identifies the failed circuit. Clearing it costs time on the visit and sometimes costs a second visit.
What is EC50?
A service condition shown with a flashing SERVICE indicator. After a condenser cleaning, and only once compartment temperatures are back near normal, it is cleared by holding the door-ajar alarm key for fifteen seconds. If a technician is coming, leave it.
What is EC40?
Excessive freezer compressor run time, on the 600 Series, the 648PRO, the 700 Series and the IC-27. If the freezer is under ten degrees above setpoint, clean the condenser. If it is more than ten degrees above setpoint and no door has been left open, call for service.
My 600 Series is showing EE.
The manufacturer states there is no consumer troubleshooting for that code. It is a service call.
The door feels locked. Is it?
No. These doors have no lock. The airtight seal draws a slight vacuum as the compartment cools, and the door feels held until the pressure equalises. On Designer cabinets the soft-close hinges self-close from zero to sixty degrees and noticeably improve over about three months of use.
This company
How we work
Are you part of the Sub-Zero service network?
No. Cold Line Refrigeration Service is an independent refrigeration service company. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Sub-Zero or its parent company. We use manufacturer names and model numbers only to identify the appliances we service.
What does a service call cost?
$80 flat diagnostic, credited toward the repair. Written estimate before any part is ordered or any work begins. There is no trip charge inside the published service area and no after-hours rate, because we do not work after hours.
Do you service cooking appliances?
No. Refrigeration only: built-in and integrated columns, freezers, wine storage, undercounter units and ice makers. Sub-Zero builds no ranges and no cooktops.
How far do you travel?
40 miles by road from Fruit Cove and St. Johns County. Drive distance, not straight-line radius. Coverage includes Jacksonville, Mandarin, Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Augustine, World Golf Village, Orange Park, Fleming Island, the Beaches.
Do you have reviews on this site?
Yes. Every one we publish is printed in full on the reviews page, 53 of them, and the 4.5 out of 5 shown beside them is the arithmetic mean of those same entries rather than a figure picked to look good. Each names one fault on one cabinet, and the critical ones are printed too.
